The members of the Coalition includes representative(s) from organizations, businesses, institutions, and other entitles in the state of South Carolina that share a common mission with the Coalition, and individuals that have a record of leadership in the Family and Consumer Sciences profession. The purposes of the Coalition are:
1. Provide a forum of leadership for all family and consumer sciences programs and related activities in South Carolina.
2. Coordinate family and consumer sciences efforts in South Carolina.
· Clarify the audiences or target groups served by each represented group.
· Explore ways to supplement and share program efforts.
· Cooperate in program planning and implementation regarding in-service and public service education, when feasible.
· Deal with issues and problems affecting family and consumer sciences programs, prekindergarten through higher
education.
3. Serve as a clearinghouse for communication.
· Disseminate information from the Coalition to members who in turn will communicate to appropriate persons within their
organizations.
· Share current information on publications, workshops, special interest meetings, in-service education, and related
programs and activities.
· Report activities of the Coalition during SCAFCS Annual Business meeting.
4. Upon request, serve as evaluators of programs and activities with particular reference to existing standards, such as, American
Association of Family and Consumer sciences (AAFCS) and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics accrediting documents and other
criteria.
5. Address concerns that impact the family and consumer sciences profession.
6. Serve as a resource to the Governor’s Office and General Assembly on issues that impact family and consumer sciences.
